About Us

The Vancouver Breastfeeding Centre is run by a dedicated group of Family Physicians who have specialized training in Breastfeeding Medicine. We are passionate about helping mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals while ensuring that their babies are receiving the nutrition they need. Breastfeeding can be challenging; at the Vancouver Breastfeeding Centre we aim to offer a timely assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan for the specific breastfeeding difficulties you may be encountering.

Dr. Verity Livingstone

Dr. Verity Livingstone

MBBS, FCFP, FABM

Dr. Verity Livingstone is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Practice, University of British Columbia. She is a mother of four children and a busy grandmother. She has specialized in Breastfeeding Medicine for over 35 years. She obtained her International Lactation Consultant Board Certification and is a Fellow in the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. She founded the Vancouver Breastfeeding Centre in 1986 and has helped over 30,000 mothers and babies solve their breastfeeding difficulties. She is recognized internationally for her pioneering work in the promotion, support and protection of breastfeeding.

Dr. Emily Chang

Dr. Emily Chang

MD

Dr. Emily Chang (on maternity leave until July 2021) is a BC-trained family physician with a full service family practice in Richmond. She qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2019 and joined the Vancouver Breastfeeding Center shortly after. Dr. Chang is fluent in Mandarin and works at the Breastfeeding Centre on Tuesdays.
Dr. Eleanor Huettmeyer

Dr. Eleanor Huettmeyer

MD

Dr. Eleanor Huettmeyer MD grew up in Revelstoke, BC, and graduated from UBC Medicine in 2011. She has practiced as a rural Family Physician since 2014 and developed a special interest in Breastfeeding Medicine in 2017. She is certified through Douglas College Breastfeeding Course for Health Care Providers. She has led community breastfeeding support groups, prenatal education groups, and provides one-on-one patient care. She is passionate about making breastfeeding a valued part of human health. She has three young children that have taught her a lot about breastfeeding, parenting, and the importance of laughter and play.

Dr. Kara Jansen

Dr. Kara Jansen

MD, CCFP, IBCLC

Dr. Kara Jansen was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. She graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2002, and went on to complete her Family Medicine residency in Ottawa. She moved to Vancouver in 2004, and has been practicing Family Medicine here since then. In 2009, Dr. Jansen lived in Melbourne, Australia, and studied Breastfeeding Medicine at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2010, the same year she joined the Vancouver Breastfeeding Center. Dr. Jansen has three young children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, outdoor activities, and playing with her kids. Dr. Jansen is in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Dr. Betty Lin

MD, FCFP, IBCLC

Dr. Betty Lin is a BC-trained Family Physician and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, who joined the Vancouver Breastfeeding Centre in 2009. Dr. Lin is fluent in Mandarin and works at the Breastfeeding Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Dr.  Jennifer Wickens

Dr. Jennifer Wickens

BSc, MD, CCFP

Dr. Wickens  is a Victoria  based Family Physician who has been helping families overcome  breastfeeding challenges  for over 20 years. She is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family Practice, University of British Columbia. She completed her medical training at UBC, obtained  her International Lactation Consultant Board Certification in 1998 and is a member of the  Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.

Alicia Ortega

Alicia Ortega is our Office Manager. She joined the Vancouver Breastfeeding Centre in 2011 and helps ensure that we see our patients in a timely fashion. Alicia is fluent in Spanish.

Tammy Mainman

Tammy Mainman

Tammy Mainman is our Medical Office Assistant. She joined the Vancouver Breastfeeding Centre in 2009 and has been a valuable part of our team ever since.
